Liverpool's Radio City went on the air on 21 October 1974. It was the first station outside London to broadcast 24 hours a day from start-up (although neighbouring Piccadilly moved to 24/7 radio just before City's launch). It was the home of many great names, including its first PD, Gillian Reynolds, but I was taken on in 1982 by Roger Wilkes, a Programme Director who I liked a lot and who had a strong pedigree in journalism and programming, but perhaps not music. He was impressed to hear me playing Mahler early one Sunday morning though...

I presented afternoons and Sunday breakfast until leaving to go to Italy in 1984.
