Jeff the Bus Driver

Just as the traditional radio industry is contracting, consolidating and moving into the shadows, other industries are expanding. On-line radio is one, and public transport - in particular, flexible and cost-effective bus operation - is another. In fact, the two converge with the new WiFi enabled buses (above)! Back in January 2009, following a challenge by a bus driver listener to my Smooth Radio show, I decided to find out more about bus operations locally and was offered the chance to take a bus driving course with Stagecoach Yorkshire.

I passed the PCV test in just ten days and realised, to my horror, that it's the first bit of serious new learning I had done for many years. I so enjoyed the job and working directly with the public that I went on to complete the Stagecoach company training and still work for them in my spare time. Watch out for me driving your bus around Chesterfield and Sheffield, mainly on the 43, 44, 50 and X17.

Huge thanks to Stagecoach Yorkshire MD Paul Lynch, driving instructor Bob Needham, and driving mentor Dave Roberts.
